Nellie is outside our bedroom window

It is 10:27 pm and Nellie hoots softly for Ned the third. You can tell it is Nellie (a female) because she has a trill at the end of her “who cooks for you-you-you-you-you.  It is such a beautiful sound that I am awe struck again. She doesn’t get a response so she hoots a little louder.  Ned flies in, does a quick monkey hoot and I am not privy to what happens next. January and February are the prime mating times.  It is Ned’s job to dine Nellie with varmint cuisine and if she is pleased, well let’s just say that Ned gets his dessert and cigarette.

This is Nellie shaking her head wondering if she should count on Ned for all her meals or just feed herself once in awhile and relax a little. After all, she’ll be sitting in a tree hollow for 6 weeks incubating her eggs.
